People keep referring to this sort of thing as "bipartisanship". I do not think it means what you think it means.
this is what the democratic leaders of congress thinks "bipartisanship" means, though. this is what bipartisanship has come to mean. this is why it does not work. i am pretty sure it is not possible to negotiate with most of the republicans currently in power, because they've decided that they can make "bipartisanship" mean "give us everything we want, the way we want it, and more, and assume that even then we won't be satisfied".
It does, at least, serve as a much-needed reminder that the Democrats are also scum.
