somehow, one of my favourite feminist blogs has been sucked into an epic retaliatory bad-breakup shitfest from a BBS i used to frequent. which is still going on. two years later.
i hate the internet.

hee. no, martin's right, i'm afraid. though i wish he wasn't. (happily, things are are so batshit at this point that the only result seems to be a general recoiling from the cause, once people read through a few links. oy.)
Now it's gotten even better because they're all being attacked by stoopid teenagers from 4chan for wanting to eat babies.

Actually, it's not against baby eating, directly. A feminist blogger was talking about her problems with her 14 year old son who persists in spending a lot of time masturbating to online porn even after being caught by her several times and yelled at. She feels like she hasn't done a very good job of parenting and in a moment of desperation said she wished she had had the abortion she was planning on instead of trying to raise a kid.
The 4chan "anonymous" crowd then descended on the entire feminist blogosphere with a tasty combination of anti-abortion and pro-kids-masturbating-to-porn.
i must have missed that particular kerfuffle. at least it's 4chan, which means they get bored pretty quickly. (and as for the pro-kids-masturbating part, they probably are speaking from experience, at least.)
without having read the thread, though, i am a bit confused by the mother's reaction. i mean, he's 14. masturbating is sort of what kids do at 14.
Oh, it was a lot more involved than that. He was the product of marital rape and she sees in him many woman-degrading behaviors of her ex-husband on a regular basis. The whole "I keep catching him masturbating to raunchy online porn when he's been banned from using the internet" was just the last straw which caused her to make a probably ill-conceived but totally honest blog post.
I don't know which feminist blogs you read, but they attempted to bring down Shakespeare's Sister and Feministe even though they are in no way radical feminist blogs nor are they in any way affiliated with the woman in question.
ah, that makes a bit more sense, then. (though i remember, back in the day, getting banned from the internet by my own mother, and wow, that sure didn't work out well. at all.)
i remember that happening to shakes, but i didn't realise that's why feministe was down for ages. i thought a server change gone awry was to blame for that. for the past two-three months i haven't been reading many blogs as regularly as i'd like.
the BBS-related horrorshow i was dreading actually wound up fizzling, much to my great relief; that was on pandagon.
Damn, I thought it was Feministe who had gotten involved with the whole CM thing. With the ever rotating casts of bloggers, I sometimes can't keep Feministe and Pandagon straight these days.
sheelzebub at pandagon, yeah. which is odd, since feministe is the one with the legal bent. (so maybe they knew better?)
ex-feministe zuzu did show up on the pandagon thread to help explain why getting legally involved in the whole mess was so very No... Just... No.
(sometimes the guest blogging at feministe is fun. but a lot of the time it's been just... meh. one week just kind of read like someone's idle journal entries. it kind of sucked. another whole week was totally devoured by that ridiculous epic YOU HATE TEH CHILDREN battle, too. i'd be happier with less-frequent but more substantive posts.)
