aleatory contract

my own personal Waterloo

if i were to give up on St John's, where else could i go? the making-my-way-with-no-degree thing pretty clearly did not work out, so it looks like i'll need to get a BA somewhere, but i have no patience for the typical college structure. unfortunately, i also have no patience for the typical college student. what should i do?

i almost want to become a professor of business, just so that, in classes, i could use LiveJournal as a case study in How To Fail.

i'm in love.

i love the fact that our now-nearly-two-year-old kitten still hasn't tired of chasing her own tail. she is sitting on the laundry hamper, spinning in dizzy circles, stopping every so often to wave her paws menacingly and then to attack with a THWAP THWAP THWAP.

even after two years, that tail always seems to outsmart her.

an apology from Li'l Debbie

if this truly is how the process went down, though, it's quite breathtaking. the editor who accepted and ran allen's piece is still claiming that all those women who read it online (which, apparently, wasn't the *real* version of the piece, but an unedited one) "either missed or overlooked the humor". apparently, the "extensive editing" of the print version edited some humour into it.

i wonder if the claim of "non-PC" will ever be understood for what it is: a last resort for those who want to enjoy all the fun of bigotry without getting called bigots.

belated new year's resolution: nobility. i pledge, here and now, to be the noblest motherfucker i can possibly manage to be. this course of action is nearly certain to earn me nothing more than the petulant wrath of the freshman class, but that is okay. aristotle is telling me to expect as much.

related: it's a shame they don't have sophocles Ajax on the reading list in annapolis.

it had badly-drawn pictures to match

it's this sort of thing that reminds me just how fucking useless any attempts i might make to remedy the sexism and bigotry of campus magazine articles would be. although at the Washington Post doesn't have badly-written "erotica" about law firm partners sexually harassing their interns, at least, the ultimate argument is always still Women Are Dumb (and basically just here so you can have sex with them).

funny thing: the Post's been wondering lately why it has so few female readers, particularly in the desirable young-college-educated-with-babies bracket. can't think why that should be the case, can you? perhaps any young, college educated mothers who happen to bother to read this dreck can set them straight, but since it's really not an unusual article in today's media, most probably won't bother. the Moon, of course, doesn't care about circulation, so whenever i go to them to complain i'm just told to fuck off and stop being "so sensitive".
